I am a German-born, London-based tour guide with a love for stories, hidden details, and the layers that make this city so fascinating.

Living here for many years, I know the city far beyond the usual tourist routes. I spend a lot of time exploring London on foot and enjoy sharing both well-known places and quieter corners that often go unnoticed.

With a background in storytelling, culture, and community projects, I create walking tours that are personal and engaging.

Are you looking for recommendations? Look no further...

Here are some of my favourite spots around London - places I recommend to friends, visitors, and people on my tours.

If you would like more context, stories, or help connecting the dots, I can't wait to see you at one of my next tours!

Not all of them are a “must-see”. Some are locals, some are a bit rough around the edges and many feel truer to London than what you will find in a travel guide. Those places are close to my heart though. Think of it more as recommendations from a local rather than a checklist. I hope, you find something you enjoy as well.

Food

The Wolseley (Piccadilly) - not the cheapest, but in my opinion one of the best price-quality afternoon teas in London (also excellent pancakes)

Fortnum & Mason (Piccadilly) - British classics and delicacies (especially teas), beautiful, kitschy - worth visiting even if you don’t buy anything (they often have nibbles to try)

Seven Dials Market - Street food market with something for every taste, including Pick & Cheese (like a sushi conveyor belt, but with cheese and cold cuts)

Borough Market - great for food of all kinds, try all the free bites from different stalls first (favourites: Mons Cheesemonger, Nana Fanny’s salt beef)

Charbonnel et Walker (Royal Arcade) - traditional chocolates with Royal Warrant, for a holiday treat

Algerian Coffee Stores (Soho) - one of the best-value take away coffees in central London

Chinatown Bakery - fresh filled waffles, perfect for a quick stop

Beigel Bake (Brick Lane) - best bagels in London (try the salt beef)

Goddards (Greenwich) - classic pie and mash (and if you’re curious: jellied eels)

Bar Bruno (Soho) - proper local café, big portions, good coffee

Pubs

The Marquis (Charing Cross) - great little music pub with live sets, option to request songs from the extensive vinyl collection

Old King’s Head (Borough) - a proper South London boozer, especially good when there’s local football on

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese (Fleet Street) - wonderfully old, full of character (also visited by ghosts of former patrons, including the parrot)

The Churchill Arms (Kensington) - famous for the beautiful exterior and classic pub feel

The Mayflower (Bermondsey) - great fish and chips right by the Thames, when the river rises, it comes right up to the balcony

The Angel (Bermondsey) - excellent views of Tower Bridge from the east

The Blue Posts (Berwick Street) - another Soho favourite with a warm feel inside

The French House (Soho) - classic old Soho pub, great staff

Skehans (Telegraph Hill) - especially nice on open mic evenings, easy to combine with Nunhead Cemetery and a night out in Peckham afterwards

Explore and Walks

Brick Lane - bagels, vintage shops, excellent second-hand browsing, pop up events, independent record shops, lots of street art around Shoreditch

Seven Dials - lively, with lots to discover in the side streets., visit the food market, Neal’s Yard, and "Choosing Keeping" for the loveliest stationery

Greenwich - combine the market or Maritime Museum with the park and observatory, perfect with a stop for pie and mash, take the foot tunnel under the Thames and visit Mudchute City Farm

Muswell Hill - home of the "Kinks" (check out Muswell Hillbillies tap room), Broadway has lots of unique independent shops, cafes, and beautiful architecture, great view down to the city, feed the ducks in Ally Pally

Regent’s Canal walk - past Abbey Road, Primrose Hill (for the view), and on to Camden (can even take a boat in Camden), get some food at the market, have a pint in one of the many alternative Pubs or visit a concert

Bermondsey - River walk, Maltby St market (weekends only)., Brunel Museum, Fish and Chips at the Mayflower with a balcony right above the Thames (careful to not get wet at high tides), Bermondsey beer mile with around 20 different local breweries

Dulwich/Lordship Lane - Lovely neighbourhood, cute shops, great art gallery, the Horniman museum on top of the hill with the butterfly house and amazing views

Museums & Gardens

Natural History Museum - good for both adults and children, easy to combine with a walk around the area (like Hyde park to feed the squirrels)

Transport Museum (paid entry) - vintage buses, trams, and trains, and a fascinating look at how the city moves.

Hunterian Museum - small, fascinating and a bit morbid, with anatomical specimens of humans and animals

Old Operating Theatre Museum and Herb Garret - one of the oldest surviving operating theatres, learn about surgical history and break throughs in medicine in old London

Chelsea Physic Garden - a bit of a hidden gem, botanical garden with a wide variety of plants, including medicinal herbs

St James’s Park - bring nuts for the squirrels and keep an eye out for pelicans and parrotsPost Building Roof Garden - one of the best 360° views over London

Phoenix Gardens (Central) - a quiet little oasis right in the city centre
